Thursday Update.

  Another great turnout for Thursday training in Shanganagh Park, 30 athletes present, as the final touches were put to our preperation for sundays novice C/C. Our thanks to Carmel for once again bringing along 3 of our junior/juvenile athletes to show us how it is done. Due to onset of the dark evenings this was our last night in Shanganagh until next spring. Thursday training will now shift to Ballywaltrim, full details will follow in our monday newsletter and on the website.

  Final reminder that Wicklow Novice and even ages C/C take place on sunday, 7 Oct, at 11am. If you intend to run. Almost every runner in the club is eligable to compete, if unable to run please come along to support your fellow athletes.
Directions, take Roundwood exit at Kilmacanogue -----on outskirts of Roundwood there is a small supermarket on the left hand side ---- take the next left hand turn after a few hundred metres --- proceed about 1 k to the first right hand turn --- course is about 2 k on this road on the right ---- park in the field as directed by stewards taking care you can get out if its wet.

W/end results

  Three athletes from our club took part in the Berlin marathon today, sunday 30 sept. Ian McGrath ran  2hrs 38mins 14 sec, Laurance Doyle ran 2.49.06 and Joe Kelly ran a new pb of 3. 05. 28. Well done to all three. In the Barcelona Iron Man Challenge (swim3.8k, bike 180k, run 42.2k) Joe Cawley finished in a time of 10hr 8mins. More details on both of these events later in the week. Also today Gary Condon ran in the Kilcock Kilomarathon (26k). Gary finished in a time of 1hr, 38min, 42sec, 5th O/all and 1st O/40. Thursday 27th Sept

This evening, thursday 27th Sept, we had a great turnout of 31 athletes in Shanganagh. Many thanks to Carmel who brought along 3 of our juniors to show us how it is done. Both Seans group, led by Denis, and Dermots group did a 1hr fartleg session. Next thursday the sessions will be a bit easier, as the Novice C/C will take place on Sunday 7th Oct.

The Annual Gery Farnan Cross Country will take place on the usual course in the Phoenix Park on the 21st October 2012.

Women 2.15 P.M.
Men 3.00 P.M.

Registration for the race will take place on the day at the Donore Club House. It will also be possible to pay your Irish Master's membership on the day prior to the race. If your are not a member you will not be selected for the International.

In registering for the race, please make sure you are entered in your correct age category. This has caused significant problems over the years in making sure people are selected in their right age category for the International.

The race will incorporates the selection trial for British and Irish International Cross Country which will take in Stormont, Belfast on the 10 November 2012.

The selection criteria are as follows;-

Where there are teams of 6 to run, the first 4 in the trial plus 2 wild cards on the part of the Selection Committee and where there are teams of 4 to run, it will be the first 3 in the trial plus one wild. Mens 35 to 55 inclusive have teams of 6, all women and men 60 and upward have teams of 4.

If you wish to be considered for a wild card selection, you must write to the Secretary of the Irish Masters - George Maybury - address in Conmmittee section by the 17th October 2012. Verbal requests cannot be accepted.

High Performance Squad

    The Leinster and Dublin High Performance Squad for 2012/2013 has just been announced and included in the squad is our own Lorcan Murphy. Lorcan, you may already know, is the current U/19 National high jump champion. On behalf of our Chairperson, committee and members we would like to congratulate Lorcan, and wish him well in the future.  (If you have not read it yet, Lorcans profile can be found under runners profile, it makes for very interesting reading).

Rathfarnham 5k

   Today, sunday 23rd sept, the Rathfarnham 5k took place on a perfect morning for running. The mens race was won by Martin Quinn, Dunleer AC, 15.00, and the womens race was won by Linda Byrne, DSD, 16.16. Nine Bray Runners took part with Bill Stanley being the first one home in a new pb of 18.25. Richard Kavanagh was next in 19.19 and 3rd O/55. Noelle Thorpe continued her magnificient season with another pb, 20.43 and 2nd O/50. Siobhan Butler ran 22.54, Andrea Murphy 24.06, a new pb, Susan Dowd, 24.43 and a new pb by over a minute. Ana Molina, 34.07, Elaine Nuzum, 34.18 and Lorraine O,Rourke ran 32.54 also a new pb. These are the chip times as per www.precisiontiming.net , you can find full results there.
