Noelle strikes gold

The Leinster Novice/Masters and even age C/C C/ships took place in Avondale on Sunday 28th Oct.  Conditions were cold and wet with the mud to grass ratio increasing with every race. Great performances from our athletes, running under the Sli Cualann banner. In the Masters women event (4k) Noelle Thorpe, continued her magnificient run of form, by taking gold in the O/50 womens race in a time of 16.18. Charlotte Stevens continued her comeback to racing by finishing a very good 5th place in 18.27, also in the O/50 section. In the Novice womens race (4k) Valarie Brunton had a brilliant run, finishing in 8th position in a time of 15.20. In the provisional team results, the Wicklow team, led by Valarie, took the bronze medal. Sadbh O Loan put in a fine performance in the girls U/12 race, not too far off the medals and 4th Wicklow athlete home.

In the Masters men (6k) Dominic Horan, running his best race of the C/C season, finished 10th in the 0/45 Cat, in a time of 15.20. Results can be found on www.precisiontiming.net

Thursday 25th Oct

Another good turnout in Ballywaltrim this evening, 26 in all. 2 groups, Denis led one group and 2nd group, Dermots group, both did a 50 minute fartleg session. Next weeks session will be 1k repeats. The group were reminded that the 5k annual Club H/cap will take place on thursday 6th This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. in Ballywaltrim.Presentation of prizes and Christmas drinks will take place on thursday 13th Dec in Duffs, Main ST. Bray (opposite McDonalds). The format for the H/cap is that runners start in order of ability, with the fastest runner starting last. The hope, if the handicapper gets it right, is that all runners should finish close to each other. We normally get a great turnout, so hopefully this year will be no differant.

Our Chairperson, on behalf of the committee and members would like to wish all our athletes taking part in the Leinster C/C, in Avondale, and Dublin Marathon, including pacers, the very best of luck.

Thursday News

On thursday 18th Oct, we had another large group, 25 in all, at our thursday training session. The main focus of the group was hill work, with Sean and Dermot providing plenty of help and encouragement. Pat took another group out on a 5k loop which also included a hill session. Next week we hope to do some repititions. Sean has promised that there will be tea, coffee and biscuits available after the session.

On behalf of our chairperson, committee and members we would like to welcome Elaine Norton to our club. We are sure Elaine will be a great asset to us.

A couple of results just in, both from Dave Carraher, Kilrudery, Hell and Back, 1hr 21, and Kilbogget 5k 23.30. (course may have been long , we hear).

Intemediate C/C

The Wicklow Intermediate and uneven ages C/C  C/ships were held in Avondale, Rathdrum, today, 14th Oct. In the mens race Laurance Doyle ran an excellent race to finish 2nd and take the silver medal, great effort since it is only 2 weeks since he ran Berlin marathon. Dominic Horan and Bill Stanley both put in great efforts to finish 7th and 16th respectively. In the womens race our only representive was Valarie Brunton, who due to previous successes was running as a guest. and she finished a long way clear of the rest of the field, a great sign for our womens team for the Senior C/C on 16th Dec. We were very well represented in all the under age events and will put the results up as soon as we have them. Tim Grummell, Inbhear Dee, won the mens race and Hannah Nolan won the womens race.
