A busy weekend for racing saw our athletes competing in Dublin, Wicklow and Kilkenny. Suzanne Foot was 1st woman home in the Mo-Run 5k, held in the Phoenix Park on Saturday 17th Nov. Her time of 21.39 also saw her finish in 5th place overall (some reports that course may have been a bit long). Great performance considering the heavy training Suzanne is doing at the moment.
On Sunday, 18th Nov, the Fit4Life 4mile was held in Avondale. Ian McGrath was 2nd, 21.55 (1stO/35). Finbar Kirwan, 4th, 22.25 (1stO/40). Dominic Horan 13th, 23.48,(2nd O/45).
In the same race Valerie Brunton continued her great run of form by winning the womens race in a time of 24.39. (Joy Johnson 2nd, Susan Lawless 3rd, both well know to Bray Runners). Charlotte Stevens, continued her impressive return to racing, winning the O/50 section in a time of 31.27. Andrea Murphy ran a solid 33.26 and Carmel Murphy completed an impressive display by our athletes finishing 4th O/45 in a time of 35.12.

On Thursday 15th Nov, we had a very well received talk on nutrition in the Ballywaltrim clubhouse. The talk was delivered by John Baldwin, nutrition expert, and promient member of Kilcoole A.C. The talk was attended by a group of 20 members, all of whom agreed that it was a very well presented and informative evening. Our thanks to John for his time and his excellent presentation.
Sean and Carmel led another group of 10 athletes on a 45 minute session on the roads around Ballywaltrim.
A couple of results to hand, Susan Dowd ran 67.47 in the Run for Newcourt, 8 mile, on saturday 10th Nov, and 50.28 in the Run in the Dark 10k on Wed, 14th nov. Also in the Run in the Dark 10k, Rachel Gilliland ran 41.41, which we believe is a new pb.

The entry procedure for Ballycotton 2013 has begun, (see earlier posts), for all registered club athletes early December is the time to watch out for. Entry forms will be posted on their website at that time. You then will have a very short time to download and return before closing date of 18th Dec. We will keep you informed.
In April 2012 Dermot Brennan / Carmel Murphy made an application to the Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards. Dermot and Carmel thought that the work that they have being doing with the Juvenile section for the past 15 years possibly warranted recognition, and set about applying to Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards. They were successful with their application and were invited to a reception in the Mansion House on September 26th, where over 80 community and voluntary groups across the Greater Dublin Area were awarded grants at the Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards ceremony
On behalf of Bray Runners AC Dermot and Carmel were presented with a Bronze certificate and a cheque for €1000.00.
Attending the ceremony among others were Niall Quinn, Michael Carruth, Pete Taylor, Johnny Murtagh.
On Saturday 10th Nov., the B.O.I 5k beach race was held on Dollymount strand (BHAA). Ian McGrath put in a fine performance to finish in 4th place in a time of 20.51. Tadgh Twomey, well know to most of our members, was 1st O/75 in a time of 31.30.
Another great turnout for our thursday training session, with 30 athletes taking part. Carmel took a small group, some of whom are racing over the weekend, on a 45 minute gentle jog. The 2nd group did a hill session on the southern cross hill, again with the Senior and Masters C/C in mind. Sean Clifford made a very welcome return to training after a long lay off due to injury. The group were reminded that next Thursday, 15th Nov, we will have a talk on nutrition for all our athletes, at 6.30 in the Ballywaltrim clubhouse. It is hoped that we will have a large attendance for this talk, which is a very important part of a running lifestyle. It is also a chance for those athletes who do not train with us on thursday evenings to come along and meet our thursday group. Athletes were reminded that it is time to start thinking about Ballycotton 2013, full entry details are in an earlier post. Dates for your diary, Thursday 6th Dec, 5k Club h/cap .... Thursday 13th Dec, Christmas drinks in Duffs @8.30 till late.... Sunday 16th Dec, Senior C/C in Shanganagh @ 11am.
Our Club was founded in 1983 primarily as a marathon running club, however over the years we have introduced a juvenile section and cover a wide range of athletic disciplines.
