THURSDAY EVENING 13th DEC

Training as usual at 6 30, Ballywaltrim,  fartlek session, with all running ccs taking it easy .
Our Christmas Drinks, H/Cap 5k presentation and some medal presentations will be held in Duffs at 9pm on Thursday evening, friends, partners, non members who help out during the year and  potential new members are all welcome.
As in previous years we will take up a modest collection for the Southern Cross clubhouse caretaker George who unfortunately has been let go and who can do with our small donation as a result, more so now than in previous years 

Wicklow C/C C/ships, SUNDAY 16th DEC

Kicks off at 11 00 with junior races, but we need to be there before that to set up the course and organise stewards etc.
Need at least a dozen stewards, so if not running please come along and help, partners and friends are very welcome. Would, ON ARRIVAL, all male athletes check in with Sean, and female athletes check in with Richard. This will ensure the smooth running of registration, confirmation of teams etc. This year we look to have not only our strongest teams in recent years but also the largest numbers competing for many a year. 4 races in all, with the possibility of future European champions taking part.

CHRISTMAS MORNING RUN @ 9 30 sharp
For those who can make it, set yourself up for the day, meet Shanganagh main gate for a run in the park.

Ballycotton 2013 - Final Reminder.

The annual Ballycotton, 10mile, Road Race takes place on Sunday 3rd March 2013. As most of you know we had a group of 20 in Ballycotton in 2012 and a great time was had by all. If you are intending to run, but have not already entered or made arrangements to do so, now is the time to get organised. Entry forms, for club athletes, can now be downloaded from www.ballycottonrunning.com BUT MUST BE RETURNED TO BE RECEIVED BY 18TH DEC. No late entries will be accepted. In this instance we enter as Sli Cualann A.C..We will have entry forms at thursday training. 

 

Club H/Cap.

Tonight, 6th Dec, we had our annual club H/Cap race. Unfortunately the weather turned nasty, with rain and a strong wind making it a very difficult night for running. The bad weather seems to have kept some from racing but we still had a good turnout for the event. We had an equally good turnout of helpers, Dermot on the leadout bike, Sean, Bernard, Mark, Dolores and Noelle at the start, finish and helping with the post race refreshments and Richard Hourahan out on the course making sure nobody took a wrong turn. Thanks to all who brought mince pies, biscuits and sandwiches and to Ciara and Denise for supplying the home baking. Some excellent times were recorded, Mary Hourahan 32.02 over 2 minutes off her pb, Lorraine O,Rourke 31.28, 1.28 off her pb and the ever improving Siobhan Butler also lowering her pb to 22.30. Fastest time of the night was recorded by Finbar Kirwan, 17.01. Here are some of the results, full results can be found on the results page.

From 2pm tomorrow Friday 7th Dec, app 1,000 slots will be available on line at www.ballycottonrunning.com , when they are gone entry forms will be available to download, these are for club runners only, and will be accepted up to the 18th Dec. only.

Weekly News

ANNUAL HANDICAP THURS 6th
Richard, Noelle and Dermot have all the handicaps sussed,  first off, at 6 30 prompt, will be Mary and Lorraine, with the rest of us to follow at regular intervals. 
There will probably be more ladies than men, so the men will consequently be evicted from the larger changing room for the night to facilitate the ladies.We will have tea / coffee afterwards, so bring along a packet of biscuits,cakes,or even something healthy. We need half a dozen to man the start, finish and provide bike support (at least one out front and one at the back) so if not running please come along and help out. Timeframe, Registration @ 6.10 to 6.20, Briefing, 6.25, Race start, 6.30.  

CHRISTMAS DRINKS THURS 13th

Duffs will reserve the area to the right of the entrance for us, ON THURSDAY 13TH DEC., for 9pm. We will train as usual at 6.30, that evening. Normally thos,e who took part in the H/cap race bring along a small gift to be used as prizes for the race (value no more than 10 euro). We also have some team and individual medals to present.

SUNDAY TRAINING

Some have said we have seen enough of the C/c course for the moment, so we will arrange a change of scene to Djouce next Sunday, first carpark 9.30. Anybody who needs directions call  Sean at 086 2593023.There will,probably, be some athletes in Shanganagh, as usual, if Djouce does not suit.

SENIOR CC 16th

We have the new Bray Runners tent for the event, and future events, for changing, bad weather etc. If all who say they will run turn up we will have around 30 competing, our biggest turnout ever.We will need about a dozen stewards on the day, so if not running please help out.

Waterford A.C. Half Marathon.

Waterford A.C held their annual half marathon in Dungarvan today, 1st Dec. Ian McGrath put in a fine performance to finish 10th, in a time of 1hr 14mins 01 sec. Dominic Horan was next Bray Runner home in a time of 1.26.19. Susan Dowd ran 1.52.59, a personal best, for Susan. The mens race was won by Philip Harty in 1.07.29, Angela McCann took the womens race in 1.20.32.

Thursday 29th Nov

Tonight, Thursday 29th Nov, we had another great turnout at our training session in Ballywaltrim, 27 in total. Two groups, both doing a fartleg session on the race route for next weeks club H/cap race.

 Our Chairperson, committee and members would like to extend a warm welcome to another new recruit in Denise O,Leary. Denise put in a very impressive performance in training tonight and will be a great asset to the club in the years to come. In the second group tonight there was great signs of improvement all round, with Diana showing speed we have not seen from her before, but perhaps the biggest improver, and putting in her best session so far, is Mary Hourihan. Next Thursday, Club H/cap, 6.30pm, Ballywaltrim. 

Sunday next, 2nd Dec, we will continue with our familiarisation run on the Junior, Senior and Masters courses for the Wicklow C/C C/ships. Meet at Shanganagh gates at 9.30 am. 

It has been a tradition in our club, for a number of years now, to have a Christmas morning run in Shanganagh, For those able to make it, we meet at the front gates at 9.30am.

Ballycotton 2013, those interested in entering will need to keep an eye on the website for information over the next week. We hope to have information and possibly entry forms available at next Thursdays session.

 We will be having a presentation on Strengthening and Stretching etc, in our clubhouse, on the 9th Jan @ 8pm. It will be presented by Hope Staunton, an expert in this field, and also a member of our club. It promises to be a very imformative evening and we hope as many members possible will attend.

Wicklow Senior C/C

As, I am sure you are aware, the Wicklow Senior C/C takes place on Sunday 16th Dec. at 11am. Last week we listed some of the men who are taking part, this week we list some of our women who have confirmed their participation.
