Thursday 19th Sept.

Another great turnout at our Thursday training this evening, almost 30 present in the park. This evening we were doing 1k repeats. The session was conducted under the watchful eye of Pat McCourt, and our thanks must go to Chris Morgan who, after finishing his own session at 6pm, kindly acted as pacemaker for the 4min per k group. Don't forget first Cross Country only 2 weeks away, see earlier post and Clonmel is Sunday week.

WICKLOW CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

As previously advised the dates for the Wicklow Cross Country C/ships are as follows;

Novice, 6th Oct;(Kilcoole);  Inter,13th Oct,( Avondale ); Senior,1st Dec (Rathdrum).

These C/ships are a very important part of our club year, together with the Masters C/c  in Jan,

 and the Road C/ships in April, they are part of the 5 C/ship races we get to run as Bray Runners

 each year. In order to ensure we are represented in each event we would ask all members to take

 part in at least one race and to that end we have drawn up a panel of athletes for each race.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT ELIGABLE ATHLETES CAN ONLY RUN ONE RACE,

 THE CLUB WOULD BE DELIGHTED TOSEE THOSE ELIGABLE, RUN IN ALL 3 OR  EVEN 2.

Challenge Almere Triathlon, Amsterdam

The Almere course is the world’s only long distance triathlon course located below sea level on reclaimed land at the bottom of what was once the Zuiderzee (South Sea), just 25km from the Dutch capital of Amsterdam. Still surrounded by water, the course features the typical Dutch landscapes renowned the world over – dikes, windmills, tulip fields and endless straight, fast roads where the battle is between you and the elements.Almere’s long history of triathlon includes hosting four European Championships (1985, 1991, 1999, 2006) and two World Championships (2003 and 2008) with the race record held by Jan van der Marel with a time of 7:57:46.

The Challenge Almere-Amsterdam starts with two swim laps of 1.9 kilometers in the Weerwater. The bike course of the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam exists of two laps of 90 kilometers. The running course consists of four laps, 10.5k per lap, which have to be conquered before finishing on the Esplanade.

Joe Cawley put in a magnificent performance to finish in 56th place, from almost 600 athletes,  in a brilliant time of 10hrs 24mins. More details to follow.

ATHLONE HALF MARATHON and KILMORE 10K

The Athlone Half Marathon was held today, 14th Sept. Conditions were perfect for running, the course is quite flat but never the less very demanding, as most found out. The mens race was won by John Byrne, Mayo AC, in 1hr.11.39, with Maria McCambridge, Letterkennny AC, first lady home In 1.15.21. We had 3 ladies taking part, Helen Barry, making her half marathon debut, and Suzanne Foot, taking over 7mins off her last half marathon, finishing in the same time of 1.32.12 and equal 4th O/40, and Emer Hynes, also very impressive, ran 1.53.51. In the mens section, Ian McGrath ran 1.15.48, and 2nd O/40, Lar Doyle ran 1.21.20, both athletes are just returning from injury. Gary Condon 1.16.04, 3rd O/40, took over a minute off his old PB, Joe Kelly, as he continues his preparation for Dublin, ran a very impressive 1.22.48, also taking over a minute off his old PB. Diarmuid Potts, also recorded a new Pb, running 1.33.04, a half minute off his previous best. Race organisation was excellent, from registration, start and out on the course itself. Well done to all who took part. Full results on www.precisiontiming.net
