Juvenile Weekly Update.

1st ever Bray junior parkrun this Sunday!

I'm very excited to say that the first-ever Bray junior parkrun is taking place this Sunday 05 February at 09:30am in the People's Park on the Lower Dargle Road in Bray. This is a weekly, free timed 2k run for all aged 4 -14. Bray Runners A.C. is hosting this, so it would be great to see a regular turnout from our juvenile members as a way to enjoy athletics and raise awareness of the club in the local area.

Obviously, it should only be an occasional and fun training run for our younger members. Our more experienced juveniles may "race" it from time to time, but it is important to have fun and not overdo it! It is entirely approporate to just jog around and have a chat most weeks you go. Of course, we certainly welcome parents to come along and support and help out for the half an hour whenever possible.  Richard H.

JUVENILE NEWS

National Indoor Combined Events Championships

A huge congratulations to Aoife Carter and Gráinne O'Sullivan, who were the first ever Bray Runners athletes to compete at the National Indoor Combined Events Championships this past weekend in Athlone.

The girls competed in 5 events over the course of 5 hours: 60m hurdles, shot putt, long jump, high jump and the 800m. The standard at these Championships (and any national juvenile championships) is extremely high, and the girls did themselves and their club proud - and they were the first to officially compete in the brand new club singlets.

Gráinne scored huge total of 1982 points to finish 8th place overall and was the highest placed Wicklow athlete in any age group, while Aoife scored 1591 to finish 13th. Between them, the girls got PBs or at least equalled their PBs in every event. As they know, there's still plenty of room to get even higher scores next time, and this is already a huge improvement from when they both competed in the Leinster outdoor combined events last summer, where they finished 6th and 14th. Well done both!

Here is the timetable; start letting us know what events your kids would like to compete in: http://athleticsleinster.org/images/entry_forms/Leinster%20Indoors%202017-%20current%20schedule.pdf

Juvenile News Update

2017 Registrations

Many thanks to those of you who have already returned registration forms for 2017. Just a gentle reminder to please try and return them before the end of January - otherwise the athletes will not be correctly insured for 2017 and will not be permitted to train with the group.
For this year, there is an option to "opt-in" or "opt-out" of purchasing the new juvenile club gear (hoodies, new t-shirts and beanies) as part of the registration. The snazzy new singlets are also available for €15 each.
Forms can be returned at training on Tuesdays or Fridays, or to Andrea Burns at the address in the attached registration form (attached to this email).

Leinster Development Squad Day

Bray Runners A.C. had no less than 10 athletes participating at the Leinster development squad day at the AIT Indoor Arena in Athlone. They each had the opportnity to train in sprints, middle distance, long jump and shot putt. It seems like they all picked up a few new tips and excercises that they will apply to their training going forward.
We will be returning to AIT arena in less than two weeks, when Gráinne O'Sullivan and Aoife Carter will be participating in the National Combined Event Championships, where they will compete in the 60mH, Long jump, Shot Putt, High Jump and 800m all in one day. Phew!
After that, the Leinster Indoor Track and Field Championships take place on 11 and 12 February in Athlone. Day 1 consists of the 60m sprints and middle distance races (600m / 800m), with long jump for uneven ages and other events; while Day 2 consists of 60m Hurdles and long jump for even ages and other events.
Then, the Leinster Relay Championships will on 25 February in the brand new National Indoor Arena at the National Sports Campus in Dublin(!). All of the Leinster Indoor Championship events are open to born in 2006 or earlier, and we would encourage as many of our athletes as possible to enter.
