Fit4life, Wicklow, 23rd May

The next Fit4life race will take place in Wicklow town on Thursday 23rd May at 7.30pm. Registration opposite Leitrim Lounge. Entry fee 5 euro for AAI reg., and 7 euro for non reg. If you are travelling from Bray, exit 16 from N11, through Rathnew, first left, new road, will take you to registration and start. 

ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT

The Annual Awards night will be held on Saturday 25th May. This year Sally and Sean Clifford will host the evening in their home at 1 Herbert Rise. Herbert Road, Bray. Please inform Lorraine as soon as possible if you will be attending and the number of tickets you require, as we need to get numbers to the caterers shortly.

RTE 5mile and Samsung 10k

The RTE 5mile road race (bhaa),was held yesterday, 27th April. The race is held around the grounds of RTE in Donnybrook, 3 lap course. Conditions were perfect for racing. The mens race was won by Robbie Mathews in a time of 25.06, and the first woman home was Orla Drumm in 28.11. Dominic Horan ran an brilliant 28.42, to finish 26th overall and 3rd O/45. There is an excellent race report from Dominic in the Race Report section. Charlotte Stevens continued her record breaking season by running a new PB of 37.42. Charlotte's previous best was 39.39 (Raheny earlier this year). Well done to all who took part. The Samsung 10k night race was held on Sunday 28th, the mens race was won by John Coughlan, MSB, in 30.29. The womens race was won by Aoife Talty, Raheny Shamrocks in 34.47. We had at least 6 runners taking part, Paul Humpries ran 48.31, Susan Dowd, 49.51, New PB; Colette Mason, 50.35 a new PB (3rd PB in 10 days); Edel Woods, 54.18; Elaine Nuzun, 63.17, new PB; Ana Molina, 64.34.  Congratulations also to Diana Doll who ran her first 10k in 52.22. Weekend Results, PBs for Helen and Suzanne in KClub, Ian and Gary fly the flag in London.

On Saturday (20th April) the K Club was the venue for latest BHAA race. It is a 10k, held over good flat country roads, and with conditions being good for racing on Saturday, it was an ideal race to chase a fast time. Joe Kelly put in a fine run to finish in 38.11 and Suzanne Foot recorded a new PB of 39.45, almost a minute off her previous best (40.33) and as you can see her first time under 40 minutes. Helen Barry ran an impressive 40.40 and continued her sequence of recording a Pb in each race she has run this year. Full results will be published on www.bhaa.ie 

The Wexford Half Marathon was held today (21st April), the mens race was won by Ruairi O,Donnell, Ferrybank AC, in 1hr 15min 45sec. First woman home was Angela McCann, Clonmel AC, in a time of 1.22.20. We had a couple of athletes in the race, Susan Dowd, ran 1.52.56, and Colette Mason took almost 6 minutes off her PB to record 1.53.53. Colettes 2nd Pb in 4 days (see below). Also today the London Marathon was held. We had 2 Bray Runners in the field, Ian McGrath, who ran 2hrs 37min 05 sec, and Gary Condon, who ran 2hr 38min 50 sec. Ian knocked over a minute off his Berlin time from last year and Gary took over 4 and a half minutes off his previous best, recorded in Dublin last year. Results, Fit4life 3k, Brilliant run from Colette.

The results of last Thursdays Fit4life 3k are now available. The race was run over a fairly similar course to last years race, a fast and flat course. Interesting stats from the race show a number of athletes making huge strides from last year. Dominic took 7 seconds off last years time, 10.06 to 9.59, Andrea Murphy took 1min 04 seconds off her 2012 time, 15.17 to 14.13, Mary Hourihan took 2mins 26 sec off her time, 21.27 to 19.01. Colette Mason took an amazing 3mins 23 seconds off her time from 12 months ago, 17.26 in 2012 to 14.03 on Thursday night.

European Athlete of the Month

Fionnuala Britton voted European Athlete of the Month for March 2013

 
The European Athletics website have just announced that Fionnuala Britton has been voted the European athlete of the month for March 2013.

The website said..."Britton was first European home in the senior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz on 24 March and was an overwhelming favourite among voters for the female European Athlete of the Month."

Fionnuala also won a bronze medal in the 3000m at the European Indoor Championships at the start of March.

This is the third time that Fionnuala Britton has been named European Athlete of the Month. She has previously won it in December 2012 and December 2011 for her winning the European Cross Country titles
