Wicklow Track and Field
Fantastic Performances by Bray Runners at Wicklow Track and Field Championships with the Girls Dominating the Middle Distances
Bray Runners had an impressive 33 juvenile athletes represent the club in the Wicklow Track and Field Championships last weekend. Our younger athletes (U9, U10, U11) showed some real promise, taking home an impressive haul of medals in the Award Scheme. There were great performances by Erica Brierton, Ronan Brierton, Aoife Carter, Sophie Delaney, Darragh Grogan, Seamus Kierans, Grainne O’Sulivan, Molly MacSweeney, Matt Merriman, Mia Plower, Ben Parker, Luca Prendergast and Joey Walsh.
The stand out performances of the weekend however were undoubtedly from our older girls in the middle distance events.
Tara Casey won gold in the U18 800m skilfully controlling the race from the gun to the tape, then following that up with a silver medal in the U18 200m. Sadbh O’Loan demonstrated her growing experience, pacing her races brilliantly to secure double gold in both the U13 600m and 1500m. Shauna Galligan showed her strength and determination to win silver in very competitive U14 800m and 1500m races.
The boys were not found wanting either, with Cian Galligan taking silver in the U14 1500m followed by Jacob Stanley with bronze. Cian also took gold in the U14 discus and shot putt.
Great results also in the older sprint categories with Laura O'Kelly winning gold in the U19 200m and Lorcan Murphy winning gold in the U19 100m. And the medal haul didn’t end there. Emma Paul won gold in the U12 shot putt, Aoife Grogan won silver in the U12 high jump and Ciara Murphy won silver in the U14 high jump, following up with bronze in the discus and shot putt.
There were also fantastic performances by Ben Adams, Emily Greubsch, Hannah Greubsch, Orla O’Calaghan, Fionn O’Loan, Jack Parker, Rachel Patterson, Martha Prendergast, Natasha Stanley and Adam Walsh, many of whom were competing for their first time at a track and field event.
