On Friday evening, 5th April, over 200 athletes took part in the final round of Athletics Wicklow Juvenile League. On a bitterly cold evening we had over 20 athletes present, all of whom did the club proud. A joy to watch as their coaches put them through their warm up and drills before each race. Cyril Smyth and Dermot Brennan both ensured that each race started and finished without a hitch.

On Saturday, 6th April, the Dublin City Council, 4ml and 2ml road race took place. Brian Maher won the mens race (4ml) in a time of 19.06. Ian McGrath finished 4th in 21.22 and Sean Clifford won the 0/60 category in 26.23. The womens 2ml race was won by Kate O,Neill in 11.10. See Race Report section for more details. On Sunday, 7th April, the National Relays were held in Raheny. Suzanne Foot was part of the Sli Cualann masters team, Carol Costello and Jackie Patrick, Greystones AC, were also part of the team. The team finished just out of the medals, with Suzanne running the 2ml section in a time of 12.18, (6.04, 6.14). Well done to all.

Also on Sunday the Bray Cliff Run, 10k, was held. Over 300 athletes took part and first home was Neil Wiktorski, in a time of 35.01. Magnificient Performance From Niel, and PBs all round.

At tonights Wicklow 5k Road Race C/Ships, Wed 3rd April, Neil Wiktorski put in a breathtaking performance to win his first Wicklow Senior Road Race C/Ship. Neil pulled away from the pack towards the end of the first kilometre and was never seriously challenged from there to the finish. Gary Condon, with another great run, finished 2nd, Joe Cawley, in his final race before the Boston Marathon, finished in the top 5, and the final member of our Senior team Dominic Horan, finished well inside the top 20. Due to a problem with the chip timing, official results were not available on the night, as soon as we receive them we will put them on the website. The story of the night did not end there, as athlete after athlete posted new PBs. While official times are not available yet the following is based on unofficial times. Suzanne Foot was first woman home, with Helen Barry not too far behind, both running new Pbs. Bill Stanley smashed his previous best and Diarmuid Potts was another to record a new Pb. Charlotte Stevens reduced her 5k best for the 5th time in a row, dipping under the 23min mark for the first time. Colette Mason, Emer Hynes, Siobhan Butler, Andrea Murphy, Edel Woods, Ana Molina, Elaine Nuzan, Diana Doll, running her first race for the club, the ever improving Mary Hourihan, Des O,Hare, Paul Humpries all recorded new Pbs.  Our mens Over 50 team of Sean Clifford, Pat McCourt, Tom Cavanagh and Richard Kavanagh, all performed admirably on the night.

On behalf of your Chairman and Committee we would like to thank all those who participated in tonights race and those who came out to support our athletes. I am sure when we get the results Bray Runners will be to the fore in both the Individual and team categories. Finally a big thank you to Ashford A.C. for a great post race spread. We hope you all enjoyed tonights race and perhaps some may consider taking part in the Leinster Novice and Masters road race on 6th May in Gowran, Co.Kilkenny, 6k for men, 3k for ladies.

Thursday 21st March, News

We have now returned to Shanganagh for our Thursday evening training sessions. Last evening, despite the poor weather the session was very well attended, we divided into two groups with one doing a 4k tempo and the 2nd group doing 2k tempo. Suzanne Foot and Dave Carragher set the pace for group 1 and Collette Mason and Emer Hynes did a similar job for group. Next Thursday we will be doing a pyramid session, our final session before the Wicklow Road C/Ships.

Wicklow Road C/Ships will be held in Ashford on Wednesday 3rd April at 7pm, distance 5k. We would ask all athletes to make every effort to be available. In order to help with the paperwork, selecting teams etc., we would ask all those hoping to run to inform Sean, Dermot or Richard or drop a note to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . We would again remind master athletes that they may opt out of the masters category and declare to run in the SENIOR category, but they MUST make this clear at the entry desk on the night. We hope to have athletes and teams in all categories.

Fit4life 1mile, Wed.20th march, awaiting results, will post them as soon as they become available, although we do know that Charlotte Stevens recorded another PB.
