Ratoath 5k

On sunday 16th Sept., the Ratoath 5k took place. This was the first running of this race which is organised by Ratoath A.C. It attracted a field of over 300 athlethes. First home was Thomas Moran, 15.36, first woman home was Patricia Wvodarvik, 18.20. The course is very good, quiet country roads, fast first k, followed by 3 tough ks and a fast final k. The organisation was excellent, roads closed and plenty of stewards on the course. Changing facilities, hot showers also available. A couple of good photos of our own Martin Francis, on start line, on www.ratoathac.com . The post race refreshments were the best I have seen. Only gripe, age catagories were in 10 year blocks, not the usual 5.  9/10.

Bohermeen 5mile

This is a long established event on the Co. Meath running calender. This year was the 40th running. It is a vey well organised race, as you would expect, run over quiet country roads. The first 2 miles being flat, but the next 2 are very testing, especially yesterday as there was a very strong headwind. The final mile is reasonably flat with the last 100mts run on the finishing straight of the local track. Hot showers and plenty of food available after the race. The Rennicks cup is the main prize, but there are 3 prizes in each catagory, women and men, and team prizes also. There is a 5k race/fun run prior to the main race. Well done Bohermeen A.C.

National Half Marathon

Race Result fromn National Half Mazrathon in Athenry, Sunday 2nd September 2012.

I ran one hour 17 minutes 16 secs, 51st place and, a 2 minute pb over my time in last years National Half.

Very well organised race by Athenry A.C., on a relatively flat route, with a few small climbs and a headwind on the more exposed parts of the course.  The weather started out very sunny and warm, but cloud cover after about 5/6 miles created a decent racing environment.  A long way to travel for a half marathon, but worth it to participate in such a high quality field in a very well organised  race.

Longford Half Marathon

Conditions were perfect, sunny but not too warm, a well marshalled course and a friendly event.  You can tell this is a runners race.

A few drags but no long or steep hills.  Spent a lot of time running on my own and could feel the wheels starting to loosen at around ten miles, so had to do some serious talking to myself to dig in and make sure I stayed on course for my 90 minute target.  I feell I should have more to give at this distance but finishing with a five minute pb and a sub 90 hm making the third  milestone for me this year,  I have no complaints.

Kilbride (Co Meath) 5k

Race date: Tuesday 12th June 2012.

There was also the option of running a10k. The evening was cool and damp, quite good conditions for racing.  A low key race, with around 200 taking part.  The organisation, stewarding etc. was 1st class.  The course was very good, slight incline at the start but nice flat country roads for the rest of the 5k.  Hot showers and plenty of refreshments after the race.  Would recommend this race to anyone looking for a nice 5 or 10k without the usual hustle and bustle of some of the bigger races.  Richard

Park West 10k

Race Date: June 2012
Race report provided by Richard

There were no age group categories. I'm pretty sure that the course was a bit short, maybe by 200m or so.  Turn out was low <300 participants with more of a focus on the fun runners rather than competitive club runners, although the race was won in an impressive 33:09. Other than that it was a very well marshalled course, mostly flat but with a few challenges and near perfect conditions.  The long stretch along the canal is great.
