Stook Hill 10 mile Challenge

The Stook hilll 10 mile is a new race on the calender. It starts and finishes in the village of Dungarvan, Co. Kilkenny. The course is tough, exactly as the advertisement for the race had told us. The first 5 miles are quite hilly, but they prepare you well for what is to follow. From 5 to 8 is when the big hill comes. It is a very tough  3 mile climb, quite steep in parts, and is run mostly over narrow country lanes. At 8 mile you head for home, a 1 mile downhill stretch follows, a very fast section, if you are a good downhill runner, if not, like me, you could find it quite uncomfortable. The final mile is a good finishing mile, mostly flat but there is a climb in there just to see if you have anything left.  Overall it is a great course for this time of the year, certainly not, though, a PB course. The race organisation, stewarding and post race refreshments were all excellent. This race could become very big over the next few years.
