Dominic is the man behind the keyboard updating our Facebook and Twitter feeds – you have been warned!

Dominic has the dubious honour of having been the 1st juvenile to join Bray Runner’s having done so when he transferred from Bray Striders back in 1984. He didn’t hang around for long in getting Bray Runners on the podium when he finished 3rd in the Leinster U/17 3k track (cinder) championships in Carlow while running a personal best of 9:09 and it wasn’t long before Dominic was joining the senior team in local races, running some solid times, 10k in 33:30 and 10 miles in 58mins. Unfortunately while ramping up his training for the All Irelands, he picked up an injury and took a short break of almost 11 years from running!

In a random pub on New Year’s Eve 1994 while discussing resolutions for the coming year, the now 5 stone heavier Dominic decided to dig out the runners and hit the streets once again. This was not without its problems and after struggling through several injuries Dominic managed to get a decent run of training behind him. During this stint his most memorable times were 9:53 for 2 miles, 16:16 for 5k and 27:29 for the Raheny 5. He also just missed out on the illusive Wicklow Cross Country treble, winning the Novice, Intermediate and finishing 2nd to you guessed it Mick Byrne in the Senior.

Life got busy for Dominic and running took a back seat again, but since returning from India in 2008 as an over 40, he’s been ramping up the mileage each year and the times have been dropping again, his Master PB’s are:

1 Mile – 5:01

3k – 10:06

5k – 17:40

5 Mile – 29:18

10k – 37:53

10 Mile – 1:02:08

HM – 1:23:06

Marathon – 03:09:02

Having missed a chunk of training at the beginning of the year and being disappointed with his Marathon time, Dominic is hoping to keep the injuries at bay and focus on his aerobic fitness over the winter. He i’s back running 60 miles per week and has entered a 50k race in February to, as he says himself, ‘keep myself honest over the winter’. Speed work will be parked until the New Year and the mileage will be supplemented with some hill work and Cross County races, everything aimed at stamina and endurance.
