Prizes and Pb's Aplenty in Dublin and Charleville Half Marathons
Our Club was well represented at Saturday's Dublin Half Marathon which was held in the Phoenix Park.. Stephen O'Kennedy, running his first half, ran an excellent 83.34. Bill Stanley, 85.56 (Pb); Joe Kelly, 86.05; James Nangle, 87.42. (Pb); Suzanne Foot, 88.33 (Pb) and 3rd O40; Paul Allen 89.00 (Pb); Jean O'Kennedy, 1.40.15 (Pb); Well done also to our fellow Sli Cualann athletes, M.J. O'Neill 91.35 and Annmarie Kenny, 93.38, and to Joe Cawley and Dominic Horan who did an excellent job as pace makers.
The race was won by Eoin Callaghan, Star of Sea, in a time of 68.21, the womens race was won by Karen Alexander in 82.21. Full results at http://www.tdl.ltd.uk/
On Sunday last, 20th Sept, the Charleville International Half Marathon was held. Unfortunately for those taking part the weather was quite bad, with a strong breeze and heavy rain throughout the race. We had five athletes taking part, and took 4 prizes and recorded 4 Pb's. Neil Wiktorski finished in an excellent 7th place in a new Pb of 71.49, Gary Condon was 12th ovearall and 2nd O/40, and also recorded a new Pb of 73.01. Helen Barry was 6th lady home and won the O/40 Category in a time of 85.30, which was a new Pb by 6minutes 42sec. Ashling Smith also recorded a new Pb of 93.34, which was 7mins 34sec off her previous best. Richard Kavanagh was 1st in the O/60 Category in a time of 93.12. Well done to our fellow Sli Culann Athletes, Tom Moore 77.00 and Barry O.Neill 87.05. First man home was Ismail SSENYANGE 66.02, 2nd was Ian KIPRONO in 66.58, Maria McCambridge was first lady home in 73.27.
