Craanford 5mile
Sunday 6th April saw the first running of the Craanford 5 mile road race. Craanford Harriers is a new club, catering for juvenile athletes and is situated 5k south of Gorey. They had a couple of juvenile races prior to the 5mile race. Unfortunately the weather was unkind, with a very strong wind (seemed to be always in your face apart from the final mile) and heavy rain, although the rain did clear as the race progressed. The course is a very tough one, with an uphill first mile and miles 2 and 3 over hilly country lanes, which were not helped by the heavy rain that had fallen earlier. The final 2 miles were better running roads, still hilly though, but at least most of the last mile was downhill. The organisation and stewarding was excellent. Cash prizes for 1st 3 male and female finishers and also for each category winner. Plenty of spot prizes also on offer. The catering afterwards was great, with a selection of cakes that any French Boulangerie would be proud of. Not a race for those looking for Pb's, but a good tough run well organised and after which you will be very well fed. Great value for 15 euro entry fee.
