Huge congratulations to James Foot who last Friday evening won the 3km Tara Road race. James put in an incredible performance breaking away from the pack at 2km to win in a brilliant time of 10.05, beating competition a lot older than him.
Shanganagh Park Masterplan
As most of you are probably aware a draft Masterplan for the development of Shanganagh Park was issued on 1st July 2019. The closing date for observations on this Masterplan is 15th September 2019. As part of this draft Masterplan a provision has been made for a 100m 4 lane sprint track and the ‘potential’ for long jump and triple jump pits. While we are generally supportive of the Masterplan we are concerned that in comparison to some of the other sports catered for in the park that ours is still being "left behind".
As you are all aware in the winter months, the juvenile section of the club train in Woodbrook College with limited facilities and at a significant financial outlay, or on the surrounding roads. While in the summer months they train at Shanganagh park again with no formal facilities. Young athletes from our club have won Provincial and National medals in a wide area of the sport including long jump, high jump, middle distance and relays. If they can do this without any formal training facilities imagine what their potential could be with somewhere specific to train. Providing a safe environment for our young athletes is paramount.
We are asking you for your help. We would greatly appreciate if you could take the time to ‘Give your view’ on the online survey which can be found here:
This is a very short survey (4 questions) looking for your views on the draft Masterplan (also at the above link). If you or any other members of your family use Shanganagh park to run in please ask them to complete this survey.
Training
Training will continue each Tuesday from 6.50-8pm for all athletes, meeting by the astro pitch in Shanganagh park.
NO THURSDAY TRAINING THIS WEEK DUE TO THE CLUB 5 km & 3 km H/CAP CHAMPIONSHIP. For those taking part we will meet at the main gate of Shanganagh park at 6.45pm for a warm-up before the event begins at 7.10pm.
This weeks Sunday run with Inbhear Dee will be in Brittas Bay, meeting at Brittas Bay beach North at 9.20am for a 9.30 start. It is going to be a fun-run followed by a swim and picnic. It would be great to see as many of our athletes turn out as possible. This is open to anyone running U12's and up. There will be a 30 minute run for the younger athletes and a 45 min run for the older athletes (with a warm-up and warm down). Lifts are available for those requiring one, please speak to Suzanne or Emma.
As the cross country season is rapidly approaching it is important for all athletes to take part in at least one of the weekly Thursday or Sunday runs in addition to the Tuesday training.
For our younger athletes we would encourage you to take part in the junior parkrun (2km) held at 9.30am each Sunday morning in the Peoples Park in Bray.
